ALF is a woman-owned, woman-led, in-home, kennel-free rescue, staffed 100% by a handful of unpaid volunteers in the Tempe and Tucson areas. We’re based in Arizona and we operate in Arizona. We rely on donations from our fellow animal loving friends, since we don’t receive any type of government or adoption aid or assistance. We're one of the early veteran groups, formed in 2001. We've never changed hands or names, and our philosophy has never wavered: every life matters.

ALF is a never-kill organization.

Pumpkin, a community catAnimal Loving Friends has rescued and rehabilitated seriously ill and injured cats for more than 24 yrs, dedicating our passion and our full resources to the smaller, most vulnerable segment of the population who weren’t saved by typical adoption groups: community cats, seniors, and those with serious medical needs. We provide life-saving medical care, permanent hospice or lifetime sanctuary for those who will not recover or are not adoptable. We do not follow a treatment protocol for our rescued animals that is any different from our own. When any of our cats is ill or injured, we get it urgent medical care instead of simply euthanizing the cat, even community or feral cats.

Our rescue has operated all of these years with no paid staff, no costly software or dazzling website. 97¢ of every dollar we receive goes directly to the cats - and nothing else - and every gift means the world to these cats who are alive today because of YOU! You are vital to their welfare, and we're all blessed by your kindness!

One Day, One Purpose. A Lifetime of Impact

Arizona Gives Day is our single largest annual fundraiser, where we try to raise the majority of the year's revenue requirements through donations, matching grants, employer matches, and a portion of the event's prize pool. Our monthly expenses are approximately $3700, and this year we've set a goal to raise at least $17,600 in donations. Our cost for basic care (food, litter, and enrichment) is more than $100 per month per cat, plus a combined cost of $855 every month for medicines and vet visits.

George, spinal injuryWhen a cat is saved by ALF, we commit for its entire lifetime, regardless of what is found by our veterinary team, even if the cat turns out to be unadoptable. Those with undesirable behaviors such as marking or destruction, fear or aggression, and those with serious chronic medical conditions such as cancer, heart disease, or incontinence, will spend the rest of their lives in ALF foster homes, loved like a member of the family. Each ALF cat is allowed to live out its life in its entirety, with attention to its specific needs, no matter how big or small, how short or how long its time with us.
