KRISTY'S STORY: FROM CLIENT TO PARENT PEER SUPPORT PARTNER

At the close of her DCS case, Kristy was looking for what her next step in life was going to be. She was referred to Family Involvement Center (FIC) and applied. She joined the Peer Support movement and found a way to transform into her true authentic self. She developed hidden talents with the help of FIC’s lived expertise staff and learned that she could use those tragedies she lived through to help other parents in similar situations. What she thought she had to hide from others became her strength for instilling hope and vision in other parents.

Today, Kristy uses the knowledge and wisdom she gained from her early challenges to walk alongside other parents through FIC’s Parents For Parents program and now the Resilient Roots Apprenticeship Program (RRAP). She and her fellow staff members teach parents how to attain previously thought lost dreams.
