Over the years, Kingman Cares has received hundreds of requests from community members who simply need someone to help them get through a difficult moment. Many of these requests involve transportation. Our volunteers often use their own personal vehicles to take patients to medical appointments, help someone get groceries, or assist with important government-related appointments.
In addition to transporting people, we also pick up and deliver donated items such as durable medical equipment, food, furniture, clothing, and other essentials for individuals and families in crisis.
For these needs, we have relied on our 2006 Toyota Sienna Mini Pass van that has faithfully served our mission for years. It has given us 178,878 miles to this day and unfortunately, it has reached the point where it is ready to retire. Once this vehicle is no longer operational, we will not have an organizational vehicle available.
While our volunteers generously use their personal vehicles, we believe it is important to maintain healthy boundaries between personal property and community resources. Our volunteers need to preserve their vehicles so they can care for their families and continue showing up where their time and compassion are needed most.
We do have a small four-seat vehicle that needs repairs before it can be used for patient transportation, but it cannot replace the capacity and versatility of our minivan.
We are always watching for a good deal on a reliable used minivan. However, even when we find one, we currently do not have the available funds to purchase it outright or make payments. (Below are 3current possibilities to consider.)
Since 2019, Kingman Cares has helped over 700 individuals and families facing extraordinary circumstances. What many people don’t see are the additional transportation requests that never make it into our official numbers—times when volunteers quietly step in using their personal vehicles or when friends and neighbors help behind the scenes.
Even with these efforts, there are still times when the need exceeds the help available. When possible, we pay for a cab. When funds are not available, we reach out to other organizations. When those options are exhausted, we find ourselves facing the heartbreaking reality of having to say no.
Before it comes to that, we do everything we can to make the impossible possible.
A minivan is the ideal vehicle for our work because it allows us to transport residents safely while also picking up and delivering the donated items that so many people rely on. It is truly a multi-purpose vehicle for the many roles our organization fills in the community.
Right now, we have identified two reliable vehicles that could meet our needs, but we cannot move forward without help from our community.
This is where you can make a difference.
If you feel called to help, please consider making a donation toward the purchase of a reliable minivan for Kingman Cares. Every contribution—large or small—brings us closer to ensuring that no one in our community is left without transportation to the care, support, and resources they need.
