Nearly 50% of children in rural Guatemala are born into malnutrition, leading to a lifetime of physical and cognitive stunting.
In 2009, Prescott natives Suzanne and Earl DeBerge founded Seeds for a Future, a long-term training and mentorship Program that provides education and resources for over 5,200 families in rural communities across rural Guatemala. Families sustainably produce their own nutrient-dense food, raise healthy children, and increase incomes; embracing knowledge that lasts a lifetime.
Having empowered over 42,000 people, our Program is a proven solution for breaking the malnutrition, disease, and poverty cycles that have plagued Guatemala for many generations.
Local Challenges
Because the Seeds for a Future Program effectively combats malnutrition and food insecurity, it's in high demand. We're currently in 19 communities across 10 of the 22 states in rural Guatemala, and new communities continue to apply for the training and resources we provide. We need at least 12 new field team members to meet the demand. With the addition of new field team members, we'll be able to assist 240 families over the next year, dramatically improving their lives through better & and increased income opportunities.
Our Solution
With the new field team members, we'll provide long-term training for new families enrolling in our Program who will receive one-on-one training and mentoring for 12 months. During this period, members are trained and equipped to produce permaculture gardens, learn small animal husbandry for vital protein, significantly increase their health through nutrition and health education, and create new income opportunities.
Your Long-Term Impact
Your support in adding new team members directly enriches thousands of lives. Providing families and communities with individualized, targeted training and resources empowers them to better their health and increase income opportunities for breaking long-standing malnutrition, illness, and poverty cycles. With your generosity, families will self-empower generational change & resilience in chronically underserved communities.
