Medical Needs Heroes

This year for Arizona Gives Day, Friends of Pima Animal Care Center is asking for you to support our Medical Needs Fund, which provides critical care for animals inside Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). Right now, this fund is all about the heroes. Who are these heroes? They are the pets who endure through medical crisis and PACC's clinic staff who provide extraordinary medical care to heal these heroic pets. The Medical Needs Fund exists for when a pet's medical needs go beyond what the shelter's resources can cover.

These are the animals who arrive injured, sick, or in crisis, the ones who need emergency surgery, specialist care, diagnostics, medications, and sometimes weeks of dedicated medical fostering just to have a fighting chance. Pets who, without your support, would face a very different outcome.

When a pet arrives with a serious injury or illness, time matters. The Medical Needs Fund exists so that when a critical case walks through the door, PACC can move fast. Emergency treatment, surgeries, imaging, specialist consultations are the interventions that fall outside everyday shelter medicine and can't wait for a funding gap to be filled.

Beyond the operating table, recovery for these pets still takes time and resources. For the most severe cases, special medications, complex wound care and pain management are intensive and ongoing. The Medical Needs Fund covers the cost it takes to keep these animals stable and healing because that is what every pet in PACC's care deserves.

Many of these pets require round-the-clock attention from shelter staff and medical fosters, with hours of nursing care, physical therapy, and monitoring that go far beyond a standard shelter stay. This is the part of recovery that happens behind the scenes, one animal at a time. The Medical Needs Fund helps provide staffing that makes this possible, ensuring every critical case has the hands-on care needed to go from surviving to thriving.

When an animal is finally ready to leave the shelter, everything the Medical Needs Fund provides makes that moment possible. The emergency care, the surgeries, the recovery, the staffing, all of it with one goal: to heal these animals and give them the chance to find a home, a family, and the life they deserve. It takes heroes to do that. The Medical Needs Fund and the heroes behind it, can only do that with your support. That makes you a Medical Needs Hero, too.
