Firefighter Cancer Awareness & Prevention

Cancer remains the leading line-of-duty threat to firefighter health, causing 66% of career firefighter line-of-duty deaths from 2002 to 2019, according to the International Association of Fire Fighters.

In Arizona, the 100 Club provided direct support to more than 50 firefighters diagnosed with occupational cancer in 2025. Four of those firefighters were lost to occupational cancers last year and one firefighter has already died in 2026.

The 100 Club of Arizona will launch the 100 Club Firefighter Cancer Prevention Campaign, a statewide community fundraising effort to help protect firefighters from occupational cancer by raising funds to place a StormStick decontamination system on every firetruck in Arizona.

StormStick systems attach directly to firetrucks and provide a fast way for firefighters to rinse off dangerous carcinogens immediately after a fire, reducing exposure before turnout gear is removed.

So far, 150 StormStick systems are installed on firetrucks throughout the state. An additional 400 StormStick systems are needed to outfit every firetruck in Arizona, providing a crucial cancer prevention tool to Arizona firefighters.

The 100 Club of Arizona is working to raise $700,000 to complete the statewide effort. They’re asking businesses and people across Arizona to pitch in and help protect the lives of the men and women who protect us every day.
