SAVER is registered Equine Rescue Facility with the Arizona Dept of Agriculture that meets and exceeds Arizona State requirements.
As a veterinary based rescue, we focus the majority of our attention on equines that have been abused and neglected. We work closely with Pima County Sheriff Dept, and the Animal Cruelty Task-force of Southern Arizona to assist in housing and rehabilitating horses they confiscate. Because our rescue begins and ends with Veterinary care, we are able to give each horse the best chance at a healthy future. In partnership and the President of SAVER, Dr. Michael Hutchison DVM, CVM, SAVER has the ability in rescuing horses that are in danger of euthanasia due to their medical conditions.
SAVER provides Basic and Advanced Veterinary care to all horses that are rescued. Within the first few days of being at the rescue, we start the rehabilitation phase of our program. Each horse receives a medical evaluation, including blood work, x-rays if needed, vaccinations, hoof care, dental float, medications that are needed, and much more. A treatment plan is created and followed by the staff of SAVER. The staff is well trained in routine and emergency veterinary care. The four staff members include one DVM, two Veterinary Technicians, and one Paramedic who also has experience with veterinary medicine. The second part of the rehabilitation phase is getting the horse ready for its forever home. This includes ground work, conditioning, training, and re-introducing the horse to love and respect. Our horses spend on average 3 months with SAVER before finding a loving new family.
"In our time of need....they had just the right fit for us! We have been blessed with an incredible little mare....and our other mare is happy again! Why have I recommended....I'm selective, protective and very particular in my care of our four legged family members. Doc Mike and his staff have been part of our preventive care for over 25 years! They work well with our farrier Ben Sturman....professional, respectful and honest hard working Vet and staff. There was a need in our community and they stepped up with their knowledge, skill, and time to help rescue these incredible creatures that are in dire need! We can not thank them enough..." Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Rehome.
The endeavor to rescue any species, especially a horse that requires a massive daily infusion of expensive feed, a creature that has been both created by and abandoned by our society, that has no intrinsic worth, is the most honest form of charity. The expense and effort required to save a horse is so great and the ensuing economic loss so inevitable that the act is immaculate.
Our unique mission is to include direct veterinary intervention at the beginning of the rescue process. Improved patient outcome is the result. We are able to more rapidly triage our patients through directed therapeutics with a rapid end goal of a new forever home.
Your support fuels our passion and saves lives! Thank You!!
