At Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption (SA Greys), we believe every greyhound deserves a second chance. As an all-volunteer, foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of retired racing greyhounds by placing them into carefully matched, forever homes.

From Local Roots to a Global Mission

Since our founding in 2012, SA Greys has helped more than 1,000 greyhounds begin their next chapter. What started as a local effort has grown into a far-reaching rescue mission—welcoming hounds from Tucson Greyhound Park, racetracks across the U.S., breeding farms, owner relinquishments, shelters, and now international partners in  Ireland and Australia.

Each dog has a story. Each arrival is a new beginning.

Rescue, Rehabilitation, and the Road to Home

In 2025 alone, we welcomed 31 greyhounds into our program, including several from U.S. breeding farms. Many required specialized medical care—such as treatment for hookworm—highlighting the complex needs of dogs coming from diverse environments.

Our momentum continues. This year, we’ve already brought in 12 additional hounds, including four Australian greyhounds transported by dedicated volunteers from LAX to Tucson, and eight more from U.S. breeding farms, with an additional four Australian hounds coming in early May. And we’re not slowing down.

When a greyhound arrives, their journey to pet life begins with rest, recovery, and compassionate care. After long-distance travel, they spend time in a home boarding before receiving full veterinary evaluations. From there, they transition into experienced foster homes where they learn what it means to be a cherished companion.

Every dog receives:

• Comprehensive bloodwork, urinalysis, and fecal testing
• Necessary medical care, including altering and dental work
• Proper equipment like harnesses and GPS trackers

Because every detail matters when preparing a greyhound for a safe and successful future.

A Commitment to the Most Vulnerable

Some greyhounds need more than just a home—they need a second chance at health.

That’s why we created Jackie’s Fund, inspired by our original poster dog whose life was saved through extraordinary veterinary care. In 2025, two hounds received critical, life-changing treatment through this fund, totaling $9,200 in care.

Over the years, SA Greys has invested more than $1 million in veterinary care, treatment, and housing—because no greyhound should be left behind due to medical needs.

A Growing Community of Greyhound Lovers

While Tucson is our home, our reach extends far beyond. We adopt throughout Arizona—including the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas—and have built a strong network of adopters and volunteers in Las Vegas, El Paso, Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and Palm Springs.

The demand for greyhound adoption remains as strong as ever—or as we like to say, greyt.
