Phoenix Center for the Arts is a vibrant community hub where creativity, connection, and belonging come together. We provide inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the visual and performing arts through high-quality classes, programs, and events that nurture both artistic skill and personal well-being.
Founded in 1975 within the City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation Department, Phoenix Center for the Arts has always been rooted in public service. When municipal budget cuts threatened our closure in 2011, our community stepped forward by rallying to ensure the arts remained accessible in the heart of Phoenix. Through that collective effort, Phoenix Center for the Arts was reborn under the leadership of the Central Arts Alliance and emerged stronger, more responsive, and more community-driven than ever.
Today, Phoenix Center for the Arts is a nonprofit cornerstone of Phoenix’s cultural landscape serving thousands each year through arts education, community partnerships, resident organizations, and free or low-cost public programs. We believe the arts are essential, not optional, and we lead with equity, access, and trauma-responsive practices that meet people where they are and invite them to imagine what’s possible.
At the center of it all is our A‑Team (Arts Team)—teaching artists, administrative staff, resident organizations, volunteers, and supporters—working together to create welcoming, inspiring experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.
Our work is guided by five core principles:
Artistry
We cultivate creativity through exceptional instruction in the visual and performing arts—from painting and ceramics to dance, theater, and music—supporting both beginners and experienced artists.
Access
We remove barriers to participation by offering affordable programs, scholarships, and community-centered initiatives, ensuring the arts are within reach for all.
Aspiration
We invest in the dreams of emerging and lifelong artists, helping individuals build confidence, skills, and pathways to personal and creative growth.
Amplifying Voices
We create space for authentic self-expression, uplifting diverse voices and stories through arts education and community collaboration.
Advocacy
We champion the transformative power of arts education as a vital tool for connection, healing, and civic life.
This Arizona Gives Day, your support fuels creativity, expands access, and strengthens a legacy of community-powered arts in Phoenix. Join the A‑Team and help us continue transforming lives through the power of art.
