Sedona Arts Center

Sedona Arts Center is one of Northern Arizona’s most established cultural organizations — and today, it continues to evolve as a dynamic hub where artists, students, and community come together to create, learn, and grow.

Founded in 1958 by a small group of visionary artists and civic leaders, the organization began with a bold idea: that creativity could help shape the identity of a place. In a town of just a few hundred residents, they transformed a former apple warehouse into what would become the Art Barn — a gathering space for exhibitions, education, and cultural exchange.

That spirit still defines Sedona Arts Center today.

More than six decades later, the Center serves as a vital creative engine for the region — supporting working artists, expanding access to arts education, and producing exhibitions and programs that reflect both tradition and contemporary voices.

Through its School of the Arts, Sedona Arts Center offers year-round classes and workshops for artists of all levels — from beginners discovering creativity for the first time to professionals refining their practice.

Beyond the classroom, the Center actively supports artists in building sustainable careers through initiatives like SEAD (Sedona Entrepreneurial Artist Development) — a program designed to help creatives navigate the business side of art and share their work more effectively with the world.

Sedona Arts Center also presents a wide range of exhibitions and cultural programming that bring new perspectives and voices into the community. Signature initiatives include:

  • Vision & Sound: An African American Experience, an ongoing exhibition and educational program expanding cultural dialogue

  • The Sedona Plein Air Festival, which draws nationally recognized artists to capture the landscape in real time

  • The Big Gay Art Show, celebrating diversity, identity, and contemporary expression

  • Rotating gallery exhibitions featuring regional and national artists

The Center’s Fine Art Gallery represents more than 100 local artists, offering visitors and collectors direct access to original work rooted in the landscape and spirit of the Southwest.

But Sedona Arts Center is more than a gallery or a school — it is a place where creative lives are built, where connections are formed, and where art remains an essential part of community life.

Today, the work continues.

With every class, exhibition, and program, Sedona Arts Center is helping shape the future of the arts in Sedona — supporting artists, engaging the public, and ensuring that creativity remains a vital force in the Verde Valley.

We invite you to be part of it.
