Science Voices

A nonprofit organization

Improving equity in science education. We are helping overlooked communities improve their ability to teach, learn, and use science through co-development of new digital tools and experiences

Science Voices is a US-based nonprofit organization that works on the hardest problems in science education. Founded in 2019, we work all over the world to train educators in active learning methods, empower learners to bring science to their communities through impactful projects, and build teaching tools for low resource classrooms.

Our Projects

Greenworks - a science, technology, and society (STS) research and development network that spans the globe. Participating schools, universities, and communities utilize project-based learning to develop and implement environmental stewardship projects, whether through the Project Design curriculum, extension training, or international exchanges.  Each component of Greenworks helps foster better collaborations within and between schools and communities to help address important environmental challenges.

Agavi - an adaptive learning platform designed for smartphones that enables teachers to build innovative new experiences for their students.  Teachers will be able to create non-linear activities, track where their students are and how they’re progressing in an activity, and interface with the real world via location and sensors to allow for novel activities.

Sustainable States - a role-playing curriculum we are developing for teaching geosciences, governance, and sustainability.  Students in this experience role-play as leaders of various nations, learning the constraints under which nations operate while addressing sustainability issues.  Additionally, teachers who adopt the curriculum undergo teacher training so that they can implement game-based learning in other courses that they teach.

We also run the Global.Science podcast (currently on hiatus) that talks with teachers about their experiences in science teaching.
