Won't you be a hero today to our clients?

Southern Arizona Legal Aid's (SALA) 74-year distinguished history is exclusively providing equal access to justice with free and quality legal services to low-income and vulnerable Arizonans in Apache, Cochise, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz counties and 11 of Arizona's 22 federally recognized Native American tribes.

Without SALA, persons facing overwhelming civil legal issues, as well as state criminal restorative rights issues, would have nowhere to turn. SALA offers hope and gives a voice to the voiceless fighting for their legal rights. We're the only nonprofit law firm delivering a full range of free civil and state criminal restorative rights legal aid in these nine counties and on tribal lands.

Your gift will help clients from every ethnic and age group living in rural, suburban, and urban areas. They're Veterans, homeowners and renters, domestic violence survivors, families with children, farmers, people with disabilities, and the elderly. Women - many of whom are struggling to keep their children safe and their families together - comprise 70% of clients.

Testimonials

Charlotte Had to Start All Over

Because of you, she is smiling again.

Years of domestic violence weighed heavily on her heart. Memories of abuse flowed in every cascading tear. Without free civil legal help, hers and her children's lives were nearly destroyed.

Always hoping things would get better, Charlotte envisioned her husband would stop beating her, setting a better example for their two sons and his daughter they were raising.

Orders of Protection would be filed, withdrawn and re-filed. Twice she came to SALA for a divorce, changing her mind, believing his promises.

Another fight; this time he almost strangled her to death. Kidnapped, assaulted and dragged, bloodied and bruised, into the desert, he wanted her dead. He almost got his wish.

Summoning strength she wasn't sure she had, criminal charges resulted. During his incarceration, there were many challenges. SALA was with her every step along the way.

Issues arose with his daughter. Charlotte, the only mother the girl knew, learned she had no legal standing. SALA obtained permanent legal guardianship for Charlotte.

Despite a rocky start, the divorce was amicable. With the loss of household income and child support, her disability benefits weren't enough to sustain the family. Behind on the mortgage, she was at risk of losing their home.

After receiving sole title to the home, SALA secured a loan modification reducing the monthly payment by $238; the principal shrank more than $10,000. With a disability extension, the property tax liability was cut by $274.

Without YOU, vulnerable domestic violence victims and their children remain in danger. Your support gives survivors hope for a violence-free tomorrow.
