SARSEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit on a mission to create the next generation of critical thinkers and problem solvers through science and engineering.

Formed in 1955 to encourage the next generation of scientists and engineers, SARSEF has grown from a modest event with 100 research projects to directly impacting more than 70,000 students through our programming in a single year. SARSEF provides a comprehensive scope of on-site service: teaching Pre-K through 12th grade students how to solve real-world problems using STEM research skills, providing professional development to teachers on how to integrate state standards into hands-on research, and teaching parents how to support their students in STEM-all at no cost to participants.

This work culminates at the SARSEF Science and Engineering Fair, one of the world's largest science fairs engaging over 50,000 Arizona students annually.

The program is important to changing lives and developing our future workforce. Children realize bigger futures for themselves as a result of participating in SARSEF. From a student who received her first trophy for "using my brain!" to the high school student who discovered his true calling in life was not as an automotive manager and is now a Harvard PhD graduate and CEO, the impact is undeniable. SARSEF knows what works, and we need to help more students. The very life we impact might be the one who goes on to change the world someday.

Testimonials

"SARSEF was one of the best learning experiences I had - and I had fun! Looking back, I cannot believe how much I learned and did. I feel very grateful that I was chosen to be a SARSEF finalist and I would recommend SARSEF because it is a one-of-a-kind experience. Now that I'm back in Tucson, I want to volunteer for the organization that gave me my start."- Ryan Silva, SARSEF Alum

"I am interested in science because I hope to make a difference in the world. I also enjoy the "E" in STEM, engineering. I find it really weird that only 13% of women are engineers. I know I enjoy building, putting pieces and parts together. I hope more girls like me learn to love science. I mean, who doesn't love science?" -Bu Meh, SARSEF Fair Participant

"SARSEF takes ordinary people and turns them into scientists." Dr Margaret Wilch, Tucson High Magnet High School Teacher

"SARSEF gave me an opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do--learn about rockets!" Walter K., 8th Grade Student
