At New Life Center, we’re reimagining what our communities, and our lives, could look like without the fear and consequences of violence. We envision a society where every human feels safe, valued, and respected, allowing them to live the fullest life possible. That’s why it is our mission to ensure safe, stable communities by preventing and responding to domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Building communities free of violence is not an easy feat. With every aspect of our work, we’re that much closer to making it a reality for Arizonans.

When New Life Center opened in 1991 in an abandoned dormitory hidden away on the grounds of a popular resort in Litchfield Park, it was the first domestic violence shelter in the West Valley. The donated, makeshift space - lovingly refurbished by volunteers and community donors - offered eight beds and most importantly, safety and compassion for families fleeing their homes as victims of domestic violence. Three decades later, New Life Center has grown into one of the largest residential shelters in Maricopa County, and one of the largest in the nation, with 110 beds.

OUR LIFE-SAVING WORK
Survivors of domestic and sexual violence reach our emergency shelter after contacting a domestic violence hotline, reaching out directly, or being referred by a police department, hospital, or service provider. After arrival, we welcome each individual or family and show them to one of our private, residential units, affectionately known as casitas. Each casita can accommodate families of up to 12 people, along with pets.

During their stay at New Life Center, which averages 80 days, survivors of violence receive respite, comfort, and customized support. In addition to providing a safe, private place to stay, three meals a day plus snacks, and necessities like clothing and toiletries, we offer trauma-informed wraparound services tailored to each survivors’ circumstances and goals. Depending on survivors’ needs, we may offer airfare to relocate to a new city, funds to cover a security deposit, or help in developing a plan to stay safe from an abuser.

We also operate a standalone healing center for survivors of sexual violence and provide dating violence prevention programs to teenagers.
