ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
The GMIHC Learning and Tribute Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and wildland fire learning center in Prescott, Arizona (located at Pine Ridge Marketplace, 3250 Gateway Blvd). It honors the legacy of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew (GMIHC), the 19 firefighters who tragically perished in the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire.
The center preserves and displays artifacts, memorabilia, and items from the original Station 7 memorial fence (over 7,000 pieces saved through community efforts) located in Prescott under the auspices of the Prescott Fire Department. The GMIHC was the only municipal fire department Hotshot Crew in the nation. It tells the crew's story, educates visitors about wildland fire, firefighting techniques, and fire prevention, and inspires behaviors to reduce fire risks and fatalities.
Our mission is to establish and operate a wildland fire learning center that honors the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew (GMIHC) by telling their story, displaying and housing artifacts/memorabilia, and educating visitors about wildland fire, firefighting, and prevention.
Our vision is to create an exemplary, one-of-a-kind wildland fire learning center that honors the legacy of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew (GMIHC) by educating, inspiring, and motivating visitors to adopt behaviors that prevent wildland fires, resulting in fewer fire-related fatalities.
