The mission of Common Sense is to help kids thrive in a world of media and technology through on-the-ground partnerships with educators, community
Common Sense is dedicated to improving the digital world for all kids. As we gear up for Arizona Gives Day, we want to share how your support will help our nonprofit make a difference:
• Our advocacy work highlights digital equity across the state and supports legislative policies that identify solutions to protect consumer privacy and promote better connectivity for students and families. We also work to hold tech companies accountable for ensuring a healthy internet for all.
• We rate & review movies, TV shows, podcasts, books, and more so families can feel good about their entertainment choices. We offer the most extensive, trusted library of independent age-based ratings and reviews. Our timely parenting advice supports families as they navigate the challenges and possibilities of raising kids in the digital age. We rate and review nearly everything kids want to watch, read, play, and learn.
• Our parenting tips & advice provide the guidance and guardrails that parents and caregivers can use to encourage positive digital experiences for kids. Our resources include curated media lists, parent advice articles, interactive activities, and videos on topics such as balance and screen time, family entertainment choices, co-using media and technology, online safety, and mental and emotional well-being.
• Our Digital Citizenship Curriculum prepares students with lifelong habits and skills, supports teachers with training and recognition, and engages families and communities with helpful tips and tools. We support K-12 schools with everything educators need to empower the next generation of digital citizens. Schools across Arizona rely on our free, award-winning curriculum, expert advice, and edtech ratings to help kids thrive.
• "Common Sense has come along at the right time with the right pedigree - the nonprofit organization has emerged as a trusted resource for all sides." - San Francisco Chronicle
• "Sometimes referred to as the Curse of Parenting for our Generation, Common Sense provides tools and guidelines on technology and devices that we cannot ask our parents for!" - Orla Mackie, Common Sense donor
• "You do a great service in a world that is moving too fast towards technology without being thoughtful about its impacts. You provide a venue for thoughtfulness." - Dustin Metzger, Common Sense donor, Redlands, WA
• "I used Common Sense Media in the classroom when it first became available. We had an entire curriculum that crossed every grade level (K-8). While I'm now retired, I continue to get emails and shoot them off to those colleagues who are still in the classroom. This is a wonderful resource for teachers and PARENTS. And now that I'm a grandmother, I have encouraged my children to pay attention to the information you make available to parents...Just a valuable and incredibly important resource for ALL!!! Thank you, and let's strive for another 15 years!" - Julie Moody, Common Sense donor.
