The mission of BALLET FOLKLORICO QUETZALLI-AZ, Inc. is to create a safe, healthy and professional environment where one can (1) pursue their talent by receiving the proper training in dance, (2) build confidence through technical achievement and the art of performance, and (3) establish a sense of belonging to a performing arts community family.

Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli-AZ, Inc is a 501(c)(3) organization celebrating the colorful tradition of Mexican folkloric dance. Led by an experienced dancer, Vanessa Ramirez, the group began simply as a recreational class. As one of very few East Valley folklorico groups currently operating, interest in the dance troupe has grown significantly from its first six students in June of 2008. Last year, BFQ-AZ celebrated its 15th anniversary with 80 enrolled students and we have continued to thrive and expand, even after the impact of the pandemic.

Our students range in ages from as young as 3 years old to adulthood, and enjoy an exciting and fun way to express themselves through dance and learn about Hispanic heritage. Not only is the physical activity of the dance beneficial; but with each dance that these students learn they are immersed into the beautiful culture of Mexico learning about and exploring the various regions of the country. They are given a unique opportunity that enriches their education and appreciation for this form of art / dance.

It is wonderful to observe the growth and confidence that these students develop. The director believes in a holistic approach to dance that centers on developing the individual capacities of each dancer, emphasizing discipline, responsibility, teamwork and community service.
