The organization has consistently advocated for social justice, providing support to elderly community members who have ben victims of abuse or neglect and in need of housing, protection, and safety. Monthly, an average of 250 elders in Pima County receive immediate assistance through A.R.C.'s Elder Protection Helpline gaining access to professional case management and placement services under the Elder Care Placement Service. Last year we saved 275 grandmas and grandpas from exploitation and neglect.
Based in Tucson, A.R.C. has gained national recognition as a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency focusing on providing housing and homebuyer assistance to low income populations statewide. A.R.C. is an affiliate of UnidosUS, contributing to their national goal of achieving four million new Latino new homeowners by the year 2030. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, A.R.C. relies on donations to continue delivering housing and financial counseling services and reaffirming its commitment to empowering Southern Arizona's elders with information, resources, and choices.
Elia Garcia, a single woman, purchased her first home at age 26 using $20,000 in Down Payment Assistance thru A.R.C.'s Homebuyer Readiness Program. She found herself in financial hardship two years later during the pandemic. Without income, she depleted her savings to pay her mortgage and other obligations. With a loss of income and savings, she was facing financial distress and the potential loss of her home.
Elia returned to A.R.C. for advice and financial counseling to solve her mortgage hardship. She received financial counseling and assistance, and with the help of her counselor she was able to successfully complete a refinance that reduced her mortgage payment and her interest rate.
"I was glad I did because my mortgage payment is current and it went down almost $200. For a struggling single mom, opportunities like these are extremely helpful. Thank you A.R.C.! "
