Annie's Rescue Ride

A nonprofit organization

Annie's Rescue Ride was formed to alleviate the tremendous dog and cat overpopulation problem in Arizona. ARR rescues dogs from the county shelter in Phoenix as well as overcrowded private rescues and transports them to shelters in other states where homes are more abundant. We specialize in placing hard to place dogs such as seniors, fear dogs and those with some medical issues. We also have a small cat sanctuary that is specifically helps cats who are infected with FIV and senior cats.

Since August 2015, ARR has completed over 40 transports to states all over the country. The result? Well over a 100 dogs have found their forever homes. Many of these dogs were either slated for euthanasia simply because of lack of space at the county shelter or in foster homes for years. Our main goal is to empty cages at the Maricopa Animal Care and Control and to also help overburdened local rescues by taking in their hard to place dogs. ARR is run by Sue Carbone, a certified veterinary technician who has been active in animal rescue for over 30 years. Sue has driven to Missouri, Kansas, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Pennsylvania. ARR is the only nonprofit rescue transport in Maricopa County.

In addition to rescue transport, ARR gives out medical grants for struggling local rescues to help alleviate medical costs. This program is called the Joel Woolfson Compassion Fund which was formed in memory of Dr. Joel Woolfson--a co-founder of ARR. Additionally, a new program called, "The Best Day Ever," was started in 2019. This program involves taking a dog from the local county shelter and giving them a day of fun. This day of fun consists of a hike, a trip to Petsmart where the dog can pick out anything they want and then a trip to a burger joint.
