Provide for BLM Mustangs' Future at Sanctuary
$500 Raised
Wild Hooves Open Hearts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides sanctuary to wild mustangs, empowering them to live autonomously while preserving their legacy. Founded in 2023, we provide second chances and a safe haven for these horses that have been inhumanely rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and cannot return to their home. Providing trauma-informed care to our mustangs who have been through unimaginable trauma, our belief is that wild spirits should never be broken.
Our program specifically addresses the horrific circumstances wild mustangs have endured when they are rounded up by the BLM. Every year, tens of thousands of wild horses are forcefully removed from their land in the Western U.S. by the BLM through helicopter roundups. Being prey animals, these mustangs naturally fear danger from outside forces. The helicopter chases result in terrifying, desperate attempts to outrun their “predator”, which too often has catastrophic consequences. For the horses that survive the round ups, they lose their freedom forever. They are ripped from their herds and males are castrated before they are shipped to adoption sites. There, they risk falling into the wrong hands–people who don't understand their unique nature, people who will try to "break" them through cruel means, and people who will sell them to slaughter.
Wild Hooves Open Hearts is equipped to handle these horses with its expert team that includes a certified Trauma-Informed horse trainer and compassionate volunteers who care deeply for the welfare of these wild–but regretfully turned domestic–animals.
As the BLM roundups continue, Wild Hooves Open Hearts needs support from the public more than ever. Currently home to two mustangs--Sampson and Q--we hope to expand our facilities and save even more. 100% of your donation goes directly to their feed and medical care.
Thank you for being a part of our mission to save wild mustangs whom we welcome with open hearts in order to preserve their wild hooves--and their legacy.
