Parkinson's Foundation - Southwest Chapter

A nonprofit organization

Our mission is to make life better for people with Parkinson's Disease by improving care and advancing research towards a cure.

The Parkinson's Foundation is working toward a world without Parkinson's disease. Formed by the merger of the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) in 2016. In everything we do, we build on the energy, experience, and passion of our global Parkinson's community.

Parkinson's is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's and is the 14th leading cause of death in the U.S. It is associated with a loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression) as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). Although promising research is being conducted, there is currently no cure for Parkinson's disease.

The Parkinson Foundation objectives are to:
•Understand Parkinson's through Research
•Ensure Better Care for Everyone
•Educate and Empower the Parkinson's Community

In 2024, we funded $25.7 million to further Parkinson's research, funded $2.8 million across 30 research grants across the country and granted $4 million to local communities for Parkinson's programs. We have tested over 17,944 individuals with Parkinson's through our PDGENEration study, providing them with free genetic testing and free genetic counseling. This study will help lead us to new treatments and therapies.

We are leaders in ensuring expert Parkinson's disease care, educating and empowering the Parkinson's community, and driving the understanding of Parkinson's through research. As a national organization with a local presence and impact, we bring help and hope to nearly one million individuals in the U.S. who are living with Parkinson's.
