Old Pueblo Brass Band Inc

A nonprofit organization

Old Pueblo Brass Band was formed in 1996 under the baton of J. Franklin Dow, who passed away in 2001. His directorship was followed by Barbara Chinworth (2001-2016) and Matt Stout (2017-2025). The band is happy to welcome Jesus Jaquez, who previously served as Assistant Conductor, as its Musical Director for the 2025-2026 season.

The traditional British brass band first appeared in England in 1815 and became an integral part of nearly every town, village, and colliery in England. The band typically consists of 26 to 32 players playing only brass instruments – no strings or reeds – plus percussion. It features cornets instead of trumpets, Eb alto horns instead of French horns, plus flugelhorn, baritone, euphonium, trombone, tuba, and an Eb soprano cornet for the very high notes. There is a significant body of music that has been written or arranged specifically for brass bands and there is a thriving community of brass bands around the world. Old Pueblo Brass Band is the only British-style brass band in Tucson.
