Live Theatre Workshop (LTW) is a professional nonprofit theatre company based in Tucson, Arizona, dedicated to producing high-quality theatre and theatre education that entertains, educates, and enlightens diverse audiences of children, adults, and families throughout Southern Arizona. Rooted in the belief that theatre is both an artistic and civic practice, LTW creates work that reflects the identities, cultures, and lived experiences of the Tucson community while fostering connection, understanding, and a strong sense of belonging. LTW envisions a community in which live theatre is accessible, valued, and embraced as a vital form of expression that brings people together across difference.

Each year, LTW produces between 12 and 15 professional productions through a unified season that includes MainStage productions, a professional Children’s Theatre program, and an innovative Late Night series. Together, these programs allow LTW to present a wide range of artistic styles, genres, and voices, intentionally balancing familiar and accessible works with original, experimental, and culturally significant stories. This approach supports both audience development and artistic risk-taking, ensuring financial sustainability while advancing a mission-driven commitment to storytelling that humanizes complex social issues and elevates perspectives that have historically been underrepresented on stage.

LTW is committed to being a safe and accepting environment for artists, audiences, and participants, where people of all backgrounds feel respected, seen, and valued both onstage and off. Across all programs, LTW cultivates spaces where individuals are encouraged to bring their whole selves into the creative process and shared experience of live theatre. By prioritizing dignity, care, and mutual respect, LTW ensures that theatre is not only something audiences attend, but a place where community is built and trust is nurtured.

Education is foundational to LTW’s mission and long-term impact. Through youth-focused productions, commissioned original works, bilingual performances, and partnerships with schools, colleges, and community organizations, LTW provides young people with meaningful creative opportunities that support self-expression, confidence, collaboration, and identity development. Theatre offers young people a powerful outlet for imagination and personal voice, while also strengthening academic engagement and essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, and empathy. By ensuring that stories and artists reflect the diversity of the region, LTW helps children and families see themselves represented onstage and understand theatre as a place where difference is affirmed and individuality is celebrated.

In addition to serving audiences, LTW actively supports Tucson’s artistic community by creating consistent, high-quality opportunities for local actors, playwrights, directors, designers, and technicians. By nurturing new work, producing original plays, and collaborating with both emerging and established artists, Live Theatre Workshop strengthens the local creative ecosystem and contributes to a thriving arts economy. Partnerships with institutions such as colleges, universities, and community organizations further extend LTW’s reach, creating pathways for mentorship, professional development, and cross-sector collaboration.

Operating in Tucson and serving the greater Southern Arizona region, Live Theatre Workshop believes theatre has the power to build empathy, challenge assumptions, and deepen understanding across differences. By fostering artistic excellence, equitable access, and inclusive storytelling, LTW contributes to a vibrant cultural landscape and provides a welcoming, affirming space where individuals and communities can gather, feel seen, and connect through shared stories. Through its productions, education programs, and community partnerships, LTW continues to demonstrate how theatre can meaningfully improve quality of life and strengthen the social fabric of the community it serves.
