Fluffy was a gorgeous community cat. His people of choice were Marilyn, 92, and her daughter Kim. Fluffy not only came to trust them, he decided to share a couch, bed, and home with them.
After nearly a decade together, Fluffy took a turn. He stopped grooming. His once floofy, beautiful coat became matted. He was quickly losing weight and his ribs started to show.
Marilyn and Kim were worried. They wanted to help Fluffy and make sure he was comfortable. But they struggled to find accessible veterinary care when they needed it most.
Caring people like you made help possible.
Through the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s Love Stays Home programs, Fluffy received an exam and bloodwork from our Chief Veterinary Officer at no cost to the family. The tests showed advanced hyperthyroidism. Without treatment, Fluffy could have faced a painful decline.
Because of people like you, Marilyn and Kim got access to medication to treat Fluffy’s urgent symptoms, which gave them time to continue his care with their family veterinarian. Fluffy has since passed, but his final weeks were more comfortable, and his family had more time with the cat they loved.
Right now, you have a special opportunity to help more pets and families like Fluffy’s.
Generous local donor Lorna P. de Acosta has stepped forward to DOUBLE every dollar you give for Arizona Gives Day, up to $15,000.
Your support funds HSSA’s Love Stays Home programs, keeping pets with the families who love them. From our Pet Pantry to low-cost medical care and training support, you keep pets out of shelters and nurture the human-animal bond – an important connection that strengthens our entire community.
As Southern Arizona’s oldest and largest independent nonprofit animal shelter, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona relies on donors like you to help pets and people thrive.
