Hozhoni Foundation Inc

Mission Statement: Hozhoni Foundation provides individualized residential, vocational, and educational services primarily for people with developmental disabilities.  Our goal is to enhance quality of life, self-sufficiency, dignity and self-respect of the individuals we serve.  We provide opportunities for education and interaction within the community to heighten awareness and understanding of people with disabilities.

Funding Needs: The difference between a person with developmental disabilities and a person without disabilities - $1,014,000!  This is the estimated lifetime cost for additional, necessary healthcare and personal services and supports!  A donation from YOU can help provide for essential medical, dental, and therapeutic care or support services NOW whether for an individual or for several adults with developmental disabilities.

As the Hozhoni Foundation carries out its mission to enhance the quality of life for the individuals who receive our services, we continue to expand and evolve programs and services to meet our clients’ ever-changing needs. Hozhoni is actively involved in ongoing fundraising and grant writing to better assist this underserved population. With only core programs funded through contracts, supplemental medical and dental services, therapies, and adaptive equipment, in addition to environmental enhancements are only achieved through donations such as yours.

Clients Unfunded Medical, Dental, Therapeutic, and Adaptive Equipment Needs

Since 1996, Hozhoni has raised funds specifically for clients to receive the vital dental care, therapeutic assistance, adaptive equipment, and supplemental medical services that would otherwise not be available to them. With your support, we serve an average of 135 clients per year with these additional services totaling up to $110,000 annually.

Your support could help someone like Ed.  When Ed came to the Hozhoni Foundation, he suffered from extensive tooth decay.  Years of dental neglect due to poor oral hygiene, lack of dental care, lack of insurance, and no funding for necessary services left him in need of extensive sedated  dental work (fillings, crowns, and significant debriding due to broken teeth and neglected cavities).  He would not smile due to the constant pain and embarrassment. 

Ed’s life changed after receiving nearly $14,000 in dental work through the Hozhoni Foundation’s Clients’ Unfunded Medical, Dental, Therapeutic, and Adaptive Equipment Program.  He has become a recognized artist in the community of Flagstaff and has been chosen to display at the National Portrait Gallery (Smithsonian Institute) in Washington, D.C. Sophie’s Gallery in San Diego, CA, and the Community Art Gallery at Northern Arizona University.  Ed now readily shares his smile thanks to support from people like you!

Here is why your kindness and support is so essential:

Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) currently does not cover dental services for qualifying adults until it is medically necessary, and then only provides up to $1,000.  Most of Hozhoni’s 135 clients are dependent upon AHCCCS for their basic health care needs. 

The Hozhoni Foundation is reaching out to our community because many of our clients have no additional funds, advocates, or family able to contribute financially.  You can help provide support for adults with disabilities in Flagstaff and Prescott, Arizona to receive vital medical and dental services, various therapies and enrichment services, and adaptive and/or supplemental equipment.
