Michel's Story

Michel has always loved animals, but finding a sense of calm was challenging for him. He got frustrated easily, raised his voice often, and struggled to manage his emotions. His mother, Gina, had tried years of ABA therapy with him, and although it helped him follow instructions to a degree, she felt it sometimes overwhelmed him. Gina observed that it attempted to break him of rigid behaviors through rigid instructions, which seemed contradictory.

Then he started Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) at Horses Help with his PATH certified equine specialist, Sandra.

Michel began working with Bon Bon, a horse he quickly bonded with. Grooming Bon Bon helped him slow down, regulate his emotions, and take better care of himself. The basic grooming he did for Bon Bon started to carry over into his own life— he began brushing his teeth and hair without being reminded. He became calmer, more patient— not just with himself, but with his little brother too.

EAL didn’t just help Michel— it became something his whole family looked forward to. Instead of fights and frustration, there were shared moments at the ranch where they all found a sense of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, all while watching Michel grow and improve.
