Our mission is to assist Pima County Sheriff's Department. We provide public safety and assist in crime prevention while adding to the quality of life in Green Valley and the surrounding communities.

Green Valley Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers (SAV) incorporated in 1982 as is a non-profit organization with volunteers working to keep our mostly senior citizen commununity safe. SAV works in conjunction with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, and are called as back-up when needed.

SAV focuses on providing public safety and crime prevention to Green Valley and the surrounding communities. With 80% of the Green Valley population being age 65 and older, we help insure a safe and comfortable environment to our elderly population. Our volunteers serve seven days a week, and our daily presence makes us readily available for any citizen in the community, whether that be to help stop a scam, check welfare on elderly citizens living alone, traffic control as needed for accidents, storms, or other hazards of the road.

SAV patrol services include vehicle, bicycle, and park patrols. Vehicle patrols are also responsible for the daily home security checks, which is a free service provided to residents while they are away. Park patrol monitors the three county parks in Green Valley and are available to assist in emergency situations, should an issue arise in these more remote walking trails.

The scam squad team works to educate citizens on scam prevention through a weekly email, newspaper articles, an active website, and through community presentations. SAV strices to combat the destructive nature of scams and frauds that are especially prevalent in a community of elderly citizens.
Neighborhood Watch works with neighborhoods to establish effective crime prevention programs.

TeleCare provides services to elderly residents who live alone, by calling them each morning to check on their welfare. If a call is not answered, a SAV patrol until is sent to check on the resident, and to call for medics or assistance, if needed.

Testimonials

One of the important services SAV provides to the community, free of charge, is the TeleCare program. Every morning starting at 7:30, a SAV volunteer calls elderly Green Valley citizens who live alone, you registered for this program. If they do not answer their phone call, a SAV patrol volunteer is directed to their house to check on their welfare.

From a SAV volunteer: "I remember an incident so well, when a client didn't answer her morning call. We were dispatched to a villa during the rainy season and it had rained heavily the night before. The lady's exterior metal security door was closed, but the interior door was open. I yelled "SAV" and I could hear a faint "help me". I opened the door and found the lady lying on the floor, unable to move, and soaked from the rain. I asked her how long she had laid there. She told me "all night". Then, she said, "I knew SAV was going to call me in the morning, I just didn't realize you would get here so fast." I called for an ambulance and a deputy backup and comforted her with a blanket and pillow while we waited for help to arrive. Incidents like this make it so rewarding to be a SAV volunteer."
