FLORECER-Education Youth Programming

FLORECER helps young people in rural, border communities see college not as a distant dream, but as a real and achievable future. We foster a strong college-going culture by equipping students and their families with the knowledge, confidence, and tools needed to navigate pathways to higher education, often for the first time.

At the heart of FLORECER’s work is our Peer Advisor model, which leverages the power of near-peer mentorship to create trust, relevance, and measurable impact. Our Peer Advisors are current college students—many of whom are first-generation and from the same communities we serve, who are trained and paid to guide high-school students and families through the college-going process. Because they have recently navigated these systems themselves, Peer Advisors are uniquely positioned to demystify college admissions, FAFSA completion, and financial-aid literacy in ways that feel accessible and culturally responsive.

Through comprehensive college-readiness and parent-engagement programming, Peer Advisors provide hands-on navigation support while also serving as visible role models of what is possible. Students gain academic and digital skills, participate in pro-social and civic-engagement activities, visit college campuses, and build confidence through sustained relationships with mentors who look like them and understand their lived experiences.

With donor support, FLORECER’s Peer Advisor model not only increases college access and preparedness, it creates a ripple effect of leadership development, economic mobility, and community empowerment.
