Coding in Color is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to computer science and artificial intelligence education for all Arizonans. Founded by Diana Lee Guzman, the organization was born from her firsthand experience as a first-generation college graduate in computer science, recognizing the need for greater diversity in the field and the transformative opportunities technology education can provide.
Since its inception, Coding in Color has grown from a passion project into a full-scale initiative, offering year-long computer science courses, AI education, summer camps, hackathons, and workshops. Through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and corporate sponsors like Microsoft, Verizon Foundation and APS Foundation, the nonprofit provides students with hands-on experience in web development, artificial intelligence, robotics, and more.
In 2024, Coding in Color impacted over 450 students and provided more than 350 hours of instruction, ensuring that students across Arizona gain the skills necessary for the 21st century. More than 75% of the students served come from backgrounds where their parents have not received a bachelor’s degree, reflecting the organization's commitment to making high-quality technical education accessible to those who might not otherwise have these opportunities. By equipping students with the technical skills to particpate and compete in the digital economy, Coding in Color is shaping the next generation of innovators in tech.
Please join our partners Microsoft, APS Foundation, Verizon Foundation, Banner Health, YWCA and our in-kind donations to increase technical education across Arizona.
