About the Butterfly Collaborative
A non-profit advancing innovative solutions for vulnerable communities
The Butterfly Collaborative is a nonprofit organization committed to developing groundbreaking collaborative solutions. While the organization is actively involved in a diverse range of children’s and women’s health initiatives, its signature program is the Women’s Cancer Screening Fund. This fund is specifically focused on improving access to cancer screening and treatment, primarily by supporting early detection outreaches, such as HPV screening, in vulnerable regions like Malawi.
Cervical cancer screening/HPV testing
We are currently providing cervical cancer screenings and treatment as part of our commitment to women's health. In addition, we are developing a new treatment protocol for HPV screening to improve early detection and access to care.
Pediatric Centers of Excellence
We are committed to developing evidence-based centers of excellence in medical and mental health care for underserved areas. Currently, we are supporting a clinic network in Malawi that delivers high-quality, integrated physical and mental healthcare to ultra-vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on children.
Feeding Programs
We currently support 10 feeding centers for children experiencing malnutrition, providing essential nutritional care and support. Through our community outreach programs, we actively identify and reach vulnerable children in need. In collaboration with Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, we are exploring locally sourced, sustainable treatments for severe malnutrition.
Healthcare teams
We welcome a diverse team of medical and non-medical volunteers—including physicians, dentists, nurses, therapists, and support staff—who work collaboratively to screen and treat a wide range of conditions, including cervical cancer, anemia, malnutrition, infections, trauma, developmental delays, and dental decay.
Mental Health Care
We are collaborating with mental health professionals from around the world to strengthen care delivery in Malawi. Our current efforts are focused on developing and implementing a direct service model for community-based mental health care.
Equine Assisted Activities
We support children who have experienced complex trauma—including foster care, abuse, the loss of a family member, or serious illness—by providing access to equine-assisted trauma care, a powerful therapeutic approach that promotes healing through connection with horses.
Research
We are actively engaged in evidence-based international research projects that emphasize and support locally driven initiatives. Current areas of study include pharmacy protocols, anemia treatment, malnutrition care, and cervical cancer and HPV screening.
Trauma Care Ukraine
In partnership with World Orphan Fund and Children of Heroes, Dr. Bobbi Legg and her team are delivering trauma care and support for frontline mental health providers in Ukraine, helping those who care for others to heal and sustain their critical work.
Formularies and Protocol
We are building WHO/CDC based formularies and protocols with handouts which are freely available to international short-term mission teams and the clinics they serve.
