Building Bright Futures was established to address one of the most persistent challenges facing Arizona’s working families, the lack of affordable, high-quality childcare. Originating as the nonprofit arm of Bright Beginnings Preschool & Childcare, the organization was founded on the understanding that access to early education is both an educational and economic necessity. In communities such as Glendale, Peoria, and the surrounding West Valley, families often face limited licensed childcare options, long waitlists, and tuition costs exceeding a quarter of their annual income. Many of these households earn above the state’s childcare subsidy threshold yet still struggle to afford consistent care, creating a “benefits cliff” that forces difficult choices between work and family stability. Building Bright Futures emerged to bridge this gap by creating a sustainable, community-based model that combines affordability, quality, and wraparound support for families striving toward economic independence. Through a grant‑funded sliding fee scale, cost is not a barrier for families to access high‑quality early childhood education and care. The program blends private philanthropy, corporate gifts, and public grants to reduce tuition based on each family’s income and unique circumstances.

The main objective solution for Building Bright Futures is to help fund high quality early learning child care for families through a grant-funded public private partnership. Ideally, there will also be other stakeholders involved, such as a City or employer. Ideally, the grant will fund half of the fees for child care that a family pays for a year, thus reducing the amount a family pays by half. This is the main program for Building Bright Futures and is called The Bridgecare Initiative.

There are a few other programs we will be seeking to fund. The MOMentum Childcare Project, a program that allows care for single mothers who are interviewing for jobs. It provides care during the interview process and once a job is obtained, it transfers the family into the Bridgecare Initiative (provided there is funding and availability). We will also offer the Peoria Police Wellness Tuition Subsidy Program, which provides Bridgecare Initiative funds for families of the Peoria Police Department. Lastly, we will provide the Family Engagement & Community Enrichment Programs. This will bring together caregivers, educators, and community partners to strengthen the circle of support around each child. Through caregiver workshops, Building Bright Futures equips families with practical tools and knowledge to foster children’s health, development, and emotional well-being.
