Assistance League Flagstaff (ALF) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization serving Flagstaff for over four decades. ALF is committed to providing support for those in need within our community. Our organization is dedicated to assisting underserved school children, victims of domestic abuse, displaced people, veterans and individuals in traumatic situations. Assistance League Flagstaff sponsors & funds eight unique programs:
-Operation School Bell (OSB): Our signature program provides Head Start & school age children in need with new clothes, shoes, books & hygiene supplies. Generally, over 1100 school children are served per year.
-Homeless Help (HH): HH supports our most vulnerable population, the unhoused, through Flagstaff Shelter Services, Northland Family Help Center, Northern Arizona Veterans Resource Center & Catholic Charities. HH provides new basic clothing, shoes, backpacks, inflatable beds and other essential necessities for daily living. Estimated individuals assisted in 2024: 2700
-Sharon Manor (SM): SM houses individuals & children escaping domestic violence situations. ALF’s SM program provides a welcome basket to all new arrivals. These baskets include a full kitchen set-up: i.e.: pots & pans, glasses, knives, glasses, and silverware. Bath towels, shower curtains, personal hygiene basics along with laundry items are also included.
-Kiddie Closet (KC): parents of newborns can receive a complete new layette, diapers and other essential items necessary to welcome their new one home.
-Vouchers (V): Social service agencies that contract with ALF can refer individuals and families to the Cedar Closet Thrift Shop. Those referrals pick out complete clothing outfits and other basic goods up to three times a year. The voucher clients' needs are also supplemented with new goods that have been specifically purchased for them: sweatshirts, underwear, socks, backpacks… In 2024, over 800 people were helped with our voucher program.
-Hug-a-Bear (HAB): New teddy bears are distributed to Flagstaff Medical Center, Safe Child and other emergency organizations. These bears are to be given to children who are involved in emotional or traumatic situations. In 2024, over 1100 bears were distributed.
-Kids in Difficult Situations (KIDS): Funds from ALF are made available to KIDS to purchase clothing, snacks, meals & vouchers for children being cared for by the Safe Child Program at Flagstaff Medical Center. Sadly, about 500 children needed this assistance in 2024.
-A Birthday Celebration (ABC): ALF provides birthday presents to youth at Sharon Manor based on their specific requests. Also, veterans at the Arizona State Veteran Home on Gemini Road are gifted with a monthly celebration of cake & ice cream & music.
