Testimonials

Testimonials from a resident here at The Patriot House. To protect privacy, we are only using first names.

" My name is Clarence M. and I am a resident at The Patriot House. After spending appox. a decade in the U.S. Army Infantry, I pursued my dreams and became a fishing boat Captain. 17 years after I got out of the Army I all of a sudden started having P.T.S.D. issues along with complications from a traumatic brain injury. My family dumped me, the employer was baffled and I wound up in the forest alone. My wife died in 2016 and hope was going fast.
The devotion that is shown here at The Patriot House is evident. The Veterans receiving assistance have work, a safe place to live, restoration of personal dignity and hope for tomorrow. Faith has been renewed. The Vets have a job to be proud of and a way to be put into the mainstream of life.
Thank you all for putting me and other Veterans back in touch with hope and productivity. My thanks especially goes out to the Gary and Jenise Rideout, the founders/directors that own The Patriot House and manage the non profit, AdoptAVet. They are "gap fillers" stepping in where it is a sacrifice and inconvenient when few others would dare step in."

My name is Lyle, I was a Helicopter mechanic in the US Army and completed several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I got out of the Military in 2012. I have no contact with my family what so ever and had no support system at the time. I moved to the Verde Valley area to go use my GI bill and attend Yavapai College here in the area. Although my education expense was somewhat covered, I had no where to live and no personal transportation and quickly ran out of funds. I tried to find consistent work to make enough to support myself while attending classes as well, but without housing and transportation it was extremely difficult. I was homeless for almost 2 years while I tried to keep attending classes. It finally became unmanageable. I was alone, isolated, sleeping in the woods and had lost all hope. Gary Rideout had driven past me while I was walking with all of my military camping gear on me several times and asked if he could help. I was hesitant, not knowing him and also knowing that if he offered me a job I had no way to take a shower and get dressed with clean clothes to be there! He stopped me one day and offered me a place to live. It was in a home he owned and had 2 other Vets living there. It was furnished, I didn't need a deposit or 1st and last rent and shared the rent with 2others which included all utilities. He also offered me a job. I could ride to work with the other guys, earn a living, my rent was affordable AND I found new friends and a support system with my co-workers who had pretty much the same story as me. Gary and his wife started a non-profit, Adopt A Vet and remodeled a former charter school and turned it in to living spaces. He also lent me money to buy a car and make payments to him. I have had a safe, clean environment to live in ever since. I'm proud to say, 5 years later that I own my own very reilable car free and clear, I earn plenty to pay my rent at the Patriot House and I have people who care about me. I've learned a trade, have confidence now to be in charge of jobs and I supervise a crew. I am looking to move on now and continue to better myself. I am able to do that only because of the hand up I received from this organization. I'm pretty sure I'd still be homeless and isolated with no way to better myself if it wasn't for him stopping me that day.
