Cornerstone Community Development Corp DBA Mercy House Community Center

A nonprofit organization

Our mission is to assist and enable the residents to break through generational habits and addictions, to become viable citizens, and to aid them in fostering education and job skills to provide for themselves and their families.

The Mercy House was established in 1994 in the Cashion area of Avondale to serve the needs of at-risk youth and families. Since its inception, the Mercy House has provided tutoring and counseling to support Avondale youth in meeting their academic goals and making better life choices so they can become successful adults.

In 2017, we began a new vision for the Mercy House. Cornerstone Christian Center, the Mercy House's parent organization, established the Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, which does business as 'The Mercy House Community Center'. A new 501(c)(3) determination was applied for to change the name of the organization. An ambitious project was started to renovate the facilities and expand the services offered to the community.

We are expanding the services offered by the Mercy House in order to better serve the surrounding community.

Our Services include:

•Expanded resources and opportunities for tutoring in topics designed to enhance area residents.
•Computer lab.
•Literacy programs.
•Classes for teens and adults in anger management, parenting skills, marriage and other topics.
•GED preparation classes for youth and adults.
•Workplace preparation classes for youth and adults.
•Free, on-site childcare for parents during the above scheduled class times.
•Job Fairs to help link youth and adults to local opportunities.
•A resource center that connects the residents of Cashion to already-established community outreach programs such as food banks and the Avondale Youth Workforce Service Hub.
•Resources for grandparents such as education on grandparent's rights and parenting classes specifically designed for grandparents by Parenting AZ.

Partner with us through AZGIVES.org. Community Partners, giving a donation of $250 or more will receive recognition at all community events for the current year and be place on our Community Partners Plague to remain onsite at the Mercy House Community Center.

Testimonials

My name is Veronica. I attended the Mercy House at the age of twelve. I am now thirty-five with five boys who now attend themselves. What I've gained at the Mercy House, I also want my kids to gain. This is why I volunteer. That's how much I believe in the Mercy House.

It's a place of hope and love, which you can feel as soon as you enter the door. That is what most of the children are seeking, a smile and a "Hi, how was your day?"

I struggled with bullying in and out of school from the age of twelve through fourteen. It was hard for me to even walk to my classroom or even come outside my house. Lucky for me, I had a safe place I could go…the Mercy House. A place that taught me the value of me and how great and worthy I am.

This is why I believe the Mercy House is a great place to invest in. A place of hope and a future for so many people. I am a product of the Mercy House.

Thank You,
Veronica
