IRFC is aiming to be a clearinghouse of All things Raptor'. We are striving to be a specialty wildlife center that focuses on raptor species from all over the world. Our overarching goals are to provide comprehensive education for falconers and raptor professionals as well as raptor enthusiasts. Education on the ancient culture falconry, raptor conservation via outreach and citizen science, research and raptor rehabilitation. Whether a raptor is living in the wild or in captivity, our vision is for all to live in a world where they can thrive!
Key elements:
Raptor Conservation: Our primary goal is the conservation of raptors and their habitats. We work tirelessly to protect these magnificent predators and their ecosystems. All other goals lead back to this main goal.
Scientific Research: We conduct cutting-edge research on raptor behavior, ecology and biology. This research informs our conservation efforts and contributes to the broader understanding of vital species. This will extend into rehabilitation best practices once our rehabilitation program is active.
Education: IRFC places a strong emphasis on education, through various educational programs, workshops and outreach initiatives, to engage people of all ages and backgrounds in the appreciation and protection of raptors.
IRFC is committed to educating the public, especially the next generation, about the importance of raptors in our ecosystems because without education, conservation is not possible. Our programs and experiences are designed to inspire a connection to these elusive predators and foster a sense of responsibility towards their conservation.
Education is necessary to bring on change and environmental stewardship for the world we share with raptors. Research is necessary to provide the knowledge in order to educate and develop sound policy.
Falconry Preservation: Falconry is a culture that provides traditional ecological knowledge. This is ancient knowledge saving raptors today. Falconers were the first raptor conservationists and continue to lead the efforts today. IRFC aims to preserve falconry by offering training and educational programs. Our goal is to ensure that falconry is practiced ethically with the birds' wellbeing as a central focus.
Outreach and Advocacy: We actively engage with communities, organizations and policymakers to advocate for raptor conservation.
Gaps in Local Wildlife Rehabilitation:
While Northern Arizona boasts diverse fauna, there's a conspicuous absence of dedicated facilities for raptor rehabilitation. Many injured raptors are left untreated, leading to unnecessary suffering and death. The presence of a center focusing solely on raptors can address this gap and provide much-needed care to these birds, enhancing their chances of survival and eventual release.
IRFC brings a unique combination of expertise, passion and commitment to the cause of raptor rehabilitation. Funding remains our resistance in implementation of this program.
