The Flagstaff EcoRanch, an official 501c(3), is an ongoing experiment in sustainable living and agriculture. It is a demonstration site open for learners of all ages, residents, non-residents, and volunteers with a common goal of nurturing community, democracy, and practical sustainability.
The Flagstaff EcoRanch will strengthen ties within Flagstaff by cultivating community conversations that are culturally, economically, and socially representative of Northern Arizona.
The Flagstaff EcoRanch promotes democratic values such as justice, individual liberty, community involvement, and civic literacy in order to nurture a citizenry of all ages, cultures, and political persuasions. We will advocate for positive, unobtrusive change in government and the private sector.
The Flagstaff EcoRanch will make practical environmental sustainability accessible to Flagstaff residents regardless of income bracket, education, or living situation through workshops, hands on learning opportunities, social media, and consulting. If you are a homeowner, renter, student, sustainability veteran or rookie, the Flagstaff EcoRanch will provide programming that will help you access the guilt-free sustainability education you desire.
The Flagstaff EcoRanch is optimistic and sees individual and community-led changes as having a cumulative and positive impact on the earth. All goals are designed with the community in mind and available for the public to view or get involved. We offer varying platforms that meaningfully and purposefully reduce human impacts to the environment while progressing the EcoRanch's fundamental goal of nurturing community, democracy, and practical sustainability.
November 2012. "The EcoRanch was my first experience WWOOFing and boy was it a good one! I arrived in a very early stage, less than a month after it started up, and was given the chance to help build a vision, dream, and legacy that I'm confident will blossom into an outstanding model for sustainable living and education. During my stay, there were as many as 7 other WWOOFers from around the country and together with Jeff, we quickly became a tight knit family and work force. Jeff's sincere appreciation of work and openness to new ideas provided me with an incredibly satisfying feeling of accomplishment at the end of each day. He is not one to micro manage and is open to giving everybody control of their own ideas/visions/projects. He is genuinely out there looking to learn from all he meets, and has plenty to teach in return. I was well fed, comfortable, and had a lot of fun! My highlights from the stay included driving up to the top of Mt. Eldon with Jeff and all the WWOOFers to an amazing vantage point overlooking Flagstaff to watch a meteor shower one Saturday night, and designing and building the Ranch's chicken coop. I look forward to returning the EcoRanch in the future, to see it in full bloom. Thank you Jeff and all involved in the EcoRanch! - Josh & Gypsy Tacoma, WA."
October 2012. "My time here at the Eco Ranch has been everything I hoped it would be. The work isn't overwhelming, the property is beautiful, with a great view of the San Francisco Peaks, and Jeff is the ideal WWOOF host. There's always good food, Jeff is always quick to tell you what a great job you did and share in good conversation. He's a pretty busy guy but never shies away from getting his hands dirty with the volunteers, even after a long day at NAU. I'm proud to be part of something like the EcoRanch and to know that all my hard work has been greatly appreciated. I'm so grateful for the opportunity Jeff gave me and the friendships that came with it. I look forward to returning in the coming years."
April 2nd -19th 2013. "I'm so thankful for the time I got to spend in Flagstaff. Jeff's been an amazing host and it's really been a pleasure to work here. It's been an eventful start with honey bees, chicks, new seeds, and tearing up the field to put in berms and swales. I'm pumped for Jeff who just met his Kickstarter fundraiser to put in a solar shower/compost toilet and garden beds yesterday. While I'm happy to continue on my journey, I'll surely miss the EcoRanch. Thank you all for everything."
