AZ StRUT ( Students Recycling Used Technology)

A nonprofit organization

To improve the competitiveness of Arizona's technical workforce by: Supporting applied learning in our educational systems through scholarships and donated electronics & technology. Providing refurbished equipment to education and community non-profit organizations. Promoting diversity through technical education and work experience. Disposing electronic waste responsibly. Advocating responsible recycling.

Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology started in 1997 by Intel and Motorola. These companies wanted to get used equipment to Arizona schools and nonprofits they thought could benefit from them. They started partnering with schools to have computer repair programs assist in the refurbishing efforts. In 1998, we officially became a 501c3 with the state of Arizona.

We now partner with 33 Arizona schools to provide equipment and guidance in STEM education classes. Our student partners in these 'Techie Labs' become more skilled and learn about our mission. They assist us in refurbishing computers.
We offer' Techie Camps' to groups of learners who can benefit from hands-on technical training. Each participant earns a refurbished laptop upon completion.
We responsibly recycle all electronics that can't be reused or refurbished.

HOW AZ StRUT WORKS WEEKLY
Each week we process 7.6 tons of donated electronics. On average for the last three years, we can refurbish and distribute 101 computers a week, recycle 4.5 tons according to R2 standards and reuse 3.1 tons each week.

As of the end of 2021, we have distributed over 80,000 computers to schools, students, families, and nonprofits.

Testimonials

What a wonderful find! AZ StRUT helped our Foundation for PIHMA Research and Education support operations and help the students and staff of the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture (PIHMA) acupuncture/Asian medical college, and our nonprofit acupuncture services to veterans, military, first responders, trauma survivors and those struggling with addiction. Thank you ! Your help made all the difference so we could continue our services.
