Over the past ten years AZK9 has helped spay/neuter approximately 15,000 pets, paid out over 1.5 million in vet bills, purchased over 4,500 bags of food and found furever homes for over 600 pups.
Each week AZK9 hosts a free spay and neuter clinic in low-income communities throughout Phoenix. We have been aided in this effort through the Maricopa County Voucher Program and partner with Dr. Kit's Mobile Surgical Unit to alter dozens of companion animals every week! We focus our efforts in targeted zip codes where the highest numbers of stray animals are picked up by Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. We are happy to report that fewer and fewer animals are brought in to county shelters every year, but we are still facing an epidemic, with Arizona having the 2nd highest stray animal population in the country.
As an incentive for families to bring their pets in to be fixed we offer free rabies vaccinations, and low cost distemper/parvo vaccines. A $30 donation will fully vaccinate an animal, $10 can cover the cost of a cone or e-collar for a family who can't afford one for post operation care after the sterilization. We also distribute food and pet supplies at our clinics, and all donations make this support possible. We truly believe spay and neuter is the key to reducing the unwanted pet population crisis Arizona faces.
In addition to our work in the community, our focus has remained to help those who were considered less adoptable, hard to place, overlooked, and truly in need of a second chance in life. We believe every life is a life worth saving and that no animal is a lost cause. Each animal we take into our care is a deserving of a live filled with the love and companionship of a family. We work hard with each and every dog providing thorough medical care, training, and socializing to get each dog ready for a loving and devoted home. We are able to do so by our amazing network of foster homes and volunteers, partner veterinarians and behaviorists, and most importantly those in our community who want to give these deserving pets the second chance they deserve. Our adoption process is very thorough in order to set each pet and family up for success and ensure a promising match.
"Such a great group of people dedicating their lives to a great cause. They really stand out in regards to community outreach too (mobile spay and neuter clinics in the neighborhoods that need it most)." -Megan May August 14th 2016
"AZK9 has so much passion for what they do and they do it well. Courtney and her crew are advocates and educators for the breed and I am so happy that I was able to work with them. I held an adoption and education event, with several rescues from all over the state, and they were one of the few that had an appropriately thorough adoption process. If a group is truly trying to find a forever home for a dog, it is important that the entire process be done properly. Interviews, home checks, testing to see how already owned dogs get along with new dogs, etc. These are all things that a responsible rescue does. AZK9 does these things without apologies because they know what's truly best for the dogs and their future families. Top that off with all of their efforts with their spay & neuter clinics across the valley, and you have an amazing group!"- Seana Heather April 16th 2014
"Excellent rescue! Adopted a dog from AZK9 Rescue in 2012 after we had lost both of our other dogs. The dog came crate trained, potty trained & socialized. They have a wonderful group of fosters & volunteers!
Not only they do rescues, but they do so much for our community by holding spay/neuter clinics."- Anne Glick March 13th 2015
