We achieve our mission through presentations to schools, churches, military bases, businesses, etc, delivering helpful information for deslf-harm prevention and healthy coping skills. In addition, we reach our youth through our 10 week curriculum called Camp You Matter. This is an indoor wilderness potential building program designed for 3rd through 8th grade. Our sunshine Readers is another one of our amazing programs which connects volunteer readers with their local schools to read to children. Our goal is to increase literacy as well as connecting with a child and letting them know that they are precious and that they matter.
My name is Brian Fleming and I am the Activities Principal at Marcos de Niza high school. I would like to
share and speak on behalf of our entire administrative team. I want to describe our experience that we
had this year when LeAnn Hull, the founder and CEO for the Andy Hull Sunshine Foundation came to
speak to our students on the topic of teen suicide. Social and emotional well-being is such an important
topic and to have her come and share her story with us was truly amazing.
When we look back at how our kids and community reacted to the assembly it was overwhelmingly
positive toward the presentation. "You Matter!" We couldn't get enough bracelets to hand out to the
students at Marcos de Niza. When you listen to the comments made by faculty and students there was
a definite tone to the message. We listened to such an incredibly sad and unfortunate story, we didn't
expect to hear that something like this could happen to a young man who appeared to have everything
in life going for them. Students that were present came away with the idea of how serious the topic of
teen suicide is and that it can happen to anyone. LeAnn's message to her audience helps create
awareness of things to look for, how to help those in need, and provide you with steps necessary for you
to take if you feel someone you love or someone you just met is in a bad place mentally.
The time we spent with LeAnn and the sunshine foundation will last a lifetime for the Marcos de Niza
community. I would highly recommend that you consider partnering with her organization and invite
her team to come and share their story with your school or organization. To quote LeAnn, "My purpose
is what drives me, motivates me, and gets me up in the morning, and I believe that, like me, everyone
has a purpose much greater than themselves. This I believe."
Thank you LeAnn for your mission and purpose,
