Companion Pets in Crisis is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping pets with the people who love, while preventing unnecessary surrenders to high risk kill shelters.
Across Arizona, individuals facing homelessness, crisis, or housing instabilities are too often forced to choose between their well being and their pets. We exist to make sure they never have to.
Through consistent, boots-on-the-ground outreach, we connect with unhoused individuals and veterans with pets providing critical pet food, supplies, and life-saving resources directly to people living on the streets and in shelters. From extreme heat relief items like dog booties, cooling gear, and protective supplies to everyday essentials, our work helps pets stay safe while their owners work to rebuild their lives.
We also host monthly wellness pop-up clinics, providing access to vaccinations, basic care, and support services that are often out of reach for underserved communities. In addition, we actively support and partner with human shelters like CASS and US Vets who allow pets helping remove one of the biggest barriers individuals face when seeking safety and stability.
But what truly drives our mission is the undeniable connection between pets and mental health.
For many we serve, their pet is more than a companion they are a source of emotional support, stability, and unconditional love during times of crisis. By keeping pets with their families, we are not only preserving that bond we are protecting mental well-being, reducing trauma, and empowering individuals to move forward with hope.
Every service we provide is rooted in one belief:
no one should have to choose between their safety, their healing, and their pet.
Powered entirely by donations and community support, Companion Pets in Crisis is filling a critical gap ensuring that both people and their pets can stay together, heal together, and thrive together.
This Arizona Gives Day, we’re raising critical funds to ensure that no veteran has to say goodbye to the pet that keeps them grounded.
Why Pets Are Essential for Veterans’ Wellbeing:
Emotional Stability – Helping veterans cope with PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Mental Wellbeing – Reducing stress, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts.
Purpose & Routine – Giving veterans motivation and structure in their daily lives.
But too often, veterans struggling with housing or medical issues are forced to choose between their pet and their own well-being. We refuse to let that happen.
Through our Vets & Pets Program—in partnership with U.S.VETS Shelter Your Donation Provides:
Emergency Temporary shelter when veterans are hospitalized or in crisis, Pet food, vet care, and supplies to keep pets safe and healthy.
$25 – A month of pet food for a veteran’s dog or cat.
$50 – Essential vaccines and wellness care.
$250 – Temporary pet shelter while a veteran is hospitalized.
$300.00 – Emergency medical care for a pet in need.
Because in times of crisis, love shouldn’t be left behind.
